About … one hand images

No, I didn't make these photographs using only one hand. Many people have told me that my photographs left them with a sense of harmony and contemplative calm, which they described as a very "Zen" feeling. When searching for a name for this website, those comments came to mind. In the course of teaching Zen, the teacher will ask the student a question on which to meditate, these questions being known as koans. One of the best known koans is "Two hands clap and there is a sound. What is the sound of one hand?" Hence, one hand images.

These photographs celebrate the beauty of ordinary places and things; a moment distilled, stripped down to its most basic elements.

About … the prints

I produce the prints on an Epson Stylus Pro 7890 printer using Epson Ultrachrome K3 with Vivid Magenta pigment inks, printing on Canson Infinity Baryta Photographique paper.

Each print is signed, numbered, and delivered with a certificate of authenticity.

Local pickup in Nova Scotia can be arranged. Otherwise, orders will be shipped by Xpresspost to destinations in Canada and the US, as well as to certain international destinations. Xpresspost shipments are trackable and insured.
Shipping costs will be confirmed by e-mail after you place your order, as there are many variables that impact the final cost - size and weight of the package, packing materials, destination, etc.

About … Michael Andrassi

I began the practice of photography in the 1970s, taking up digital photography in 2006.

Self taught, I have and continue to read extensively about photography and photographic technique, and rely on experience as my main teacher.

As I am most deeply inspired by maritime landscapes, I now have home by the sea.

In 2014, I exhibited a selection of my photographs in the Montreal international design show, SIDIM, and returned with another exhibit in 2015.
